You can even have a little costume fashion show once everyone has picked out their Halloween costume.
Decorate the House
Get the kids involved with Halloween decorating! They can help hang decorations, make spooky crafts, decorate their bedroom doors, or create their own Halloween decorations.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. Even a few pumpkins, paper bats, spider webs, and homemade decorations can make the house feel festive.
Carve Pumpkins
Pumpkin carving is a Halloween classic.
Take the kids to pick out their pumpkins and let them choose their own designs. Younger kids can draw the face while an adult handles the carving.
And don’t forget to save the pumpkin seeds for another activity on the bucket list!
Go Trick-or-Treating
Of course, no Halloween bucket list would be complete without trick-or-treating!
Pick out costumes, grab your candy buckets, and get ready for a fun Halloween night.
Bake Halloween Cookies or Cupcakes
Turn baking into a Halloween activity by making spooky cookies or cupcakes together.
Kids can decorate them with orange and black frosting, sprinkles, candy eyes, or whatever other Halloween toppings you have on hand.
This is also a great Halloween babysitting activity because kids can help decorate while you’re spending time together in the kitchen.
Dress Up in a Halloween Costume
Why wait until Halloween night to wear the costume?
Have a Halloween dress-up day at home, put on some Halloween music, and let the kids spend the afternoon playing pretend in their costumes.
It’s also a fun opportunity to take some silly pictures!
Make Caramel Apples
Caramel apples are one of my favorite fall treats, and they’re a fun activity to make with kids.
Let the kids choose their toppings and decorate their own apples. Try sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, crushed cookies, or candy pieces for extra Halloween fun.
Play Halloween Bingo
Pull out a Halloween bingo game for an easy indoor activity.
Halloween bingo is especially great for Halloween parties, classrooms, playdates, and babysitting because you can get several kids involved at once.
Roast Pumpkin Seeds
After carving your pumpkins, save the seeds!
Clean and season them, then roast them for a crunchy fall snack. Kids can help pick the seasonings and see what flavor combination they like best.
It’s an easy way to turn something you might normally throw away into another Halloween activity.
Take Pictures in Your Costume
Don’t forget to take pictures!
Take a few pictures of the kids in their Halloween costumes before trick-or-treating. You can make it a yearly tradition and look back at all of their costumes as they get older.
Try taking a silly picture, a serious picture, and one with the whole family.
🧟 Play Zombies in the Basement
This is one of my favorite Halloween games for kids!
Here’s how to play:
Turn off all of the lights in the basement and choose one person to be the zombie. Everyone else has to run around and try not to get tagged.
Start at Level 1, where the zombie has to walk slowly while trying to tag the other players.
Once everyone is ready, move up to the next level. The zombie can get faster with each level until you’re eventually running around trying to escape!
You can create as many levels as you want depending on the ages of the kids.
This is such a fun Halloween game for kids because it turns an ordinary basement into a spooky Halloween adventure.
Safety tip: Make sure the basement is completely clear of anything kids could trip over before playing. If the area isn’t safe to play in complete darkness, use glow sticks or small flashlights instead.
🧡 How to Use the Halloween Bucket List
You don’t have to complete the entire list at once. That’s what makes a bucket list so fun!
Hang the printable on the refrigerator, put it on a bulletin board, or keep it somewhere the kids can easily see it.
Whenever you’re looking for something fun to do, choose an activity from the list.
You could even turn it into a Halloween countdown for kids and try to complete one activity every few days throughout October.
It’s also perfect for those afternoons when you hear the words:
“I’m bored!”
Instead of trying to think of something to do, let the kids pick an activity from their Halloween bucket list.
