What Is a LEFT & RIGHT Passing Game?
A LEFT & RIGHT passing game is a simple group activity where kids sit in a circle and pass an item based on words they hear in a story.
Every time the story says LEFT, players pass the item to the person on their LEFT.
Every time the story says RIGHT, players pass the item to the person on their RIGHT.
The trick is listening carefully! Kids have to pay attention because the mystery item can travel all around the circle before the story ends.
For this detective version, kids pass around a mystery “evidence” item while solving a case.

The famous Cloud Pleaser Needoh has disappeared!
The squishiest treasure in the museum has vanished, and it is up to a team of young detectives to solve the mystery.

Supplies:

- A small object to pass around (a Needoh squishy, stuffed animal, detective badge, magnifying glass, or toy)
- A group of kids sitting in a circle
Instructions:
- Have kids sit in a circle.
- Choose one item to be the “mystery evidence.”
- Fill in the detective name blanks with the kids’ names.
- Give one child the mystery item.
- Begin reading the detective story aloud.
- Every time kids hear LEFT, they pass the item LEFT.
- Every time kids hear RIGHT, they pass the item RIGHT.
- At the end of the story, see who solved the mystery and is holding the evidence!
